A volunteer to help at home

Helping Hands provides social and practical support in an informal way to people affected by advancing illness.

Our service has recently extended and we require more volunteers. Tthe current service is being delivered within Ross-shire with plans to extend throughout the Highlands this year. All you need are 3 spare hours a week and the will to help someone who would really appreciate it.

Training is provided and the next training program is booked to start 29th March 2017. Our volunteer department is ready to book recruitment interviews. If you are interested please phone us at Highland Hospice 01463 243132 and ask to talk with someone from the volunteer department or Service Manger Susan Smith. Alternatively, you can fill out the application form on this page.

More about this service:

Helping Hands provides a friendly ear to listen as well as extra assistance to help reduce anxiety and stress for individuals and carers.  Helping Hands volunteers will visit people regularly in their own homes or care establishment. They might read with the person, help with a hobby, chat about local and national news or sit with a person to provide a break for carers.  Highland Hospice Helping Hands is not a clinical service and volunteers will not become involved in personal care, medical care, counselling, domestic tasks, such as cooking and cleaning, or financial and legal matters.

If you can spare around 3 hours a week for a minimum of 6 months you will contribute to improving the wellbeing of people affected with advancing illness. The relationship between each Helping Hands volunteer and the person they support is unique, so the amount of time and activities will vary.  Care is taken in matching volunteers with a person or family, and the arrangements between them are agreed.  We will provide full training and ongoing support, and mileage expenses can be paid.  Applicants should be over 18 years old; PVG checks apply.
