Aim or goal of position
We require volunteers all year round to help with the upkeep of the grounds at Ness House with tasks appropriate to your level of knowledge. The Highland Hospice gardens provide a quiet sanctuary for patients and their visitors.
Main responsibilities and suggested activities
- Ensure that all tubs throughout the grounds are well watered
- Deadheading and pruning
- General tidying, sweeping and weeding
- Maintaining grassed areas
- Occasional planting of new flowers / shrubs / hanging baskets
- Keeping the bird feeders topped up
Skills / attributes and/or qualification(s) required
- Competent in basic gardening skills and an interest in gardening
- Ability to dig, prune, weed, plant, strim, mow, cut hedges, propagate seeds and/or design
- Ability to use small hand tools e.g. trowel
- Willingness to undertake training on Manual Handling and any other training necessary to safely carry out tasks in the garden.
- Willingness to carry out instructions from staff
- Ability to work to a maintenance schedule
- Physically able to carry out garden tasks
- Flexible, adaptable and willing to work on your own or part of a team
- Reliability
- Awareness of ensuring your own and others health and safety in the garden
