Bert and Mary Mackenzie of Inverbreakie Drive, Invergordon, celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on 25th March 2013.
The couple hosted a meal for 45 family members and close friends at the Morangie House Hotel, Tain, and they requested a donation to be made to Highland Hospice in lieu of gifts. In total Bert and Mary managed to raise a fantastic £355 for the Hospice. The couple chose to donate to Highland Hospice as over the years, in common with many other people, they have lost family and close friends, young and old, to cancer and fully understand the important role that the hospice plays in the Highlands.
Bert and Mary made a big event of this special milestone as they missed out on golden wedding celebrations ten years ago as Bert had to undergo a triple heart by-pass on the actual day of their anniversary. The couple have always been very charitable and gave to Macmillan in lieu of gifts at the time of Bert's 80th birthday.
Linda Macdonald, fundraising manager at Highland Hospice, said:
“We would like to wish Mr and Mrs Mackenzie a very happy wedding anniversary, what a special milestone to share with one another, and also thank them for their kind donation to Highland Hospice. The money they have raised will make a real difference to our patients and their families, and we are so grateful that they have chosen to donate to the Hospice.\"
Bert and Mary have always enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and as a treat for themselves, following the excitement of the celebrations and after the family had all departed, they dined out each day for a week at different locations in their local area, and in May they will be enjoying a well earned holiday in Fort William.
