A group of riders who completed an epic journey on horseback last year to raise funds for Highland Hospice, have announced they will be saddling up once again in April 2025.
Candy Cameron, organiser of the challenge, and her fellow equestrians Jenny Munro, Teresa Collinson and Aimee Lawson-Hill, supported by Connie Mcdowell, will travel over six days from Dores to Glenelg, using off-road tracks and quiet single-track roads, and interacting with the lovely communities they encounter along the way.
Setting off from Dores on Monday 21st April, the group will make their way to Whitebridge. The next day, Tuesday, they will reach Fort Augustus, with Garrygualach set as their destination for Wednesday 23rd April. On Thursday 24th they travel to Kinlochhourn, arriving in Glenelg on Saturday 26th April with a family ceilidh in the Glenelg and Arnisdale Village Hall (featuring the West Loch Ceilidh Band) marking the end of their trek.
Candy said, “This is a very special challenge combining our love of horses with our desire to support the important care and services of Highland Hospice. The six days will be action packed, as after a full day of riding we will be hosting quiz nights in the Wildside Centre (Whitebridge), Morag’s Lodge (Fort Augustus) and Glenelg Inn, involving the local communities and encouraging them to support us. Each of these communities has been wonderfully supported by the Hospice in one way or another and we wanted to do something special as a way of giving back.”
She added, “After the trek, our fundraising continues; We are hosting a truly magical event on Friday 2nd May on Loch Ness with Jacobite Cruises. This will include music from the incredible Moteh Parrott and a local storyteller sharing the legends and folklore of the loch.”
“Then in June, we will be offering people the chance to visit the stunning gardens of Aldourie Castle, all in support of our challenge.”
