A new format for the Wednesday launch night of the popular fundraising competition Strictly Inverness has been revealed, with dance and community groups invited to enter an exciting competition, to be held on Wednesday 19th May 2027.
Organisers are moving away from the previous dance showcase format and introducing a two-act competition between dance groups. In the first heat, groups of any size and age will each perform a recognisable ballroom or Latin style dance using their own creative choreography. The second competition sees all the magic of the musicals hit our Strictly Inverness dancefloor. Each group will be allocated a musical to choose a track from and choreograph in their own unique style.
The winners, judged by a panel of experts, will be offered a slot each in the main Strictly Inverness competition shows.
And there’s an extra prize up for grabs – with an “Audience Favourite” award.
Karen McBey, Events Manager for Inverness Ice Centre said, “We’re so excited to introduce this new fabulous format. It’s going to add so much more fun to our launch night - everyone will be looking to perform a standout routine!
Highland Hospice fundraiser Jenna Hayden added, “The focus will be on dance, no singing involved - and while costume is important and adds so much, it’s all about those steps! We’re encouraging all types of groups to get involved – you don’t need to be part of an official dance school.”
Applications are open now for any interested groups, and close on 31st October.
