The theme of Hospice Day 2026 is 'Privacy, Dignity, Care' and our aim is to raise funds to help create more single rooms at Highland Hospice.
Our Inpatient Unit was rebuilt in 2016 to provide high-quality palliative and end-of-life care in a setting that prioritises comfort, dignity, and holistic support. Originally designed in 2014, the unit consists of nine single rooms and a three-bedded ward. While the hospice IPU remains in excellent condition, the way care is delivered has evolved significantly, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic accelerated changes in patient and family expectations across all healthcare settings, with an even greater emphasis now placed on privacy, infection control, and the need for a dedicated, personal space. In the hospice inpatient setting, these expectations are even more pronounced, especially during the most sensitive moments of end-of-life care. It has become clear that a three-bedded ward no longer aligns with modern hospice care principles and so we want to convert this space into two single rooms ensuring high levels of privacy, dignity and care are assured for all patients spending their final days in Highland Hospice.
This is not simply a renovation - it is a vital investment in privacy, dignity and compassionate care.
By contributing to Hospice Day, you will play a direct role in:
- Increasing the number of patients who can access high-quality hospice care.
- Providing a private, peaceful environment for those at the most vulnerable time of their lives.
- Ensuring that end-of-life care is delivered in a way that prioritises privacy, dignity, comfort, and respect.
