If you live in Skye and would like to help us form a volunteer fundraising group in the area, please come along to our open day in Portree Community Centre on Tuesday 23 April between 3 and 8pm.
Portree councillor John Gordon has given his backing to our appeal. Once formed, the group will raise crucial funds for the Hospice by organising events in the area, supporting local fundraisers and boosting the charity’s profile within the community,
Mr Gordon said, “Highland Hospice’s work is exceptional and the charity plays a vital role for individuals dealing with life shortening illnesses and their families and friends.”
“Over the last few years we have seen some very innovative local Highland Hospice fundraising events including the Midsummer Meander ladies walk, and the charity’s annual Light up a Life services have always been well supported locally.”
“Volunteering in a local fundraising group plays a crucial role in the operation of Highland Hospice and allows you to be creative in developing ideas for events. I am very much looking forward to playing a part in establishing this group.”
Highland Hospice’s Regional Fundraiser Marie-Anne Vrac added, “Absolutely anyone can support Highland Hospice in this way. All you need is to be able to spare just a few hours every now and again.”
“We have local fundraising groups all over the Highlands, and the contribution they make to our overall income is incredible.”
“Many of our fundraisers give us the feedback that being part of the fundraising group not only makes them feel good about doing something to help others, but is also a great way to meet people, socialise and be creative.”
“We would love to have a group in operation on Skye, as we know so many people here have experienced our care and feel passionate about the charity.”
An open day will be held in Portree Community Centre on Tuesday 23rd April between 3 and 8pm, where anyone who is interested can drop in for more information.
Marie-Anne urges, “Absolutely everyone who comes to our open day will be made very welcome. If this is something that interests you even a little, then please do come to see us on Tuesday!”
