Highland Hospice is urging runners of all abilities to raise funds for its Project Build Appeal by signing up for the Inverness Half Marathon and 5K which takes place on Sunday March 13.

As the main charity partner of the event, the Hospice is encouraging as many supporters as possible to help its massive fundraising drive, which still needs £930,000 to hit its £4.5 million target.  Funds raised will be used to complete the rebuilding of the Inverness hospice, doubling the size of the in-patient department, upgrading the day therapies centre and improving other facilities.

Carola Highet, Highland Hospice Events Fundraiser, explains, “Whatever your ability, we would love you to join our team of runners.  The 5K in particular really applies to all ages and abilities.  You could either run alone as a personal challenge or form a team to have some fun with your friends, family or colleagues.”

Aquascot, the Highlands based supplier of organic salmon and sea fish, have done just that, putting together a team of 10 runners to tackle the 5K fun run.

Louise Matheson, Aquascot’s Training Development Manager said, “Throughout the years, we have been involved in various charity events so we decided this year to concentrate our efforts on one charity. After meeting Lisa Long, Highland Hospice’s Corporate Fundraiser, and hearing more about the impact the new build will make it was a ‘no brainer’ and we are delighted to have a team from various departments entering the Inverness 5k on March 13th.”

Inverness-based Personal Trainer Jamie Tulloch, who runs the newly opened City Centre Leisure & Spa Club located within the Mercure Hotel on Church Street, has also recruited a team of 25 members to raise funds for Highland Hospice for the third year running.

Jamie says, “All of our ‘Year to Save Your Life’ clients are already signed up for the 5K and I am urging as many of my members as possible to join us.  It’s a good chance for people to get together and have fun, whilst raising money for Highland Hospice, which is such an important local cause. A lot of people bring their kids to do it alongside them, so it really does appeal to all ages and abilities. Whether you run or walk, it’s the taking part that counts.”
