Highland Hospice is proud to be one of over 143 hospices taking part in the "This is Hospice Care" campaign, a national initiative facilitated by Hospice UK. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the vital role hospices play in communities and to shift public perceptions of hospice care.

The campaign, launching on 17th February, has already captured hearts and minds through a powerful TV advert based on real life hospice stories. The goal is to encourage people to consider leaving a gift in their will to support their local hospice, ensuring that these essential services can continue to provide their compassionate and specialist care for future generations.

Highland Hospice's Head of Income & Development Andrew Leaver commented, “Across Britain, charitable income from gifts in wills is expected to grow significantly over the next ten years.  Research shows that 1 in 5 of people aged 40+ now include a charitable donation in their will. Hospices, and indeed Highland Hospice, has traditionally benefitted from such gifts and this  support is hugely appreciated, but we are seeing a smaller proportion of legacy giving going to hospices. The aim of the ‘This is Hospice Care’ campaign is to remind people of the amazing work we do supporting people and their families at the end of life.”

Highland Hospice encourages local residents to consider the profound impact that a gift in their will can have.

Lorna Devlin's father Jimmy was supported by the Hospice's Sunflower Home Care team. At 87 years of age, he expressed a desire not to be admitted to hospital. Lorna said, "Dad was a big, strong man. He loved motorbikes and pipe music. It was hard to see him become weaker, and I'm so grateful to Highland Hospice. Their Sunflower team offered my dad dignity and enabled his dying wishes to be fulfilled."

For those who have needed the care and support of Highland Hospice, legacy giving has made a significant difference.

Over the past five years, gifts in wills have help Highland Hospice support around one in six of the people relying on its care. (This figure is based on legacies as a proportion of our expenditure on Hospice Care over the past five years.)
