The much-loved Ness Factor, in aid of Highland Hospice, continues to inspire and entertain the community, and this year, it's doing so in an even more inclusive way.
Contestant, Rebecca Goodall, who works as a British Sign Language/English Interpreter, has played a key role in making this year's event accessible for members of the Deaf British Sign Language using community. After discovering that several of her deaf friends were keen to attend and support the finalists, Rebecca helped arrange for two BSL interpreters to interpret on stage throughout the show. There will also be two interpreters sat at the table to interpret for all social interactions between attendees who cannot sign and those who use British Sign Language as their first language.
This marks the first time Ness Factor will feature live interpretation, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the performances and feel part of the excitement.
Rebecca shared, “It’s wonderful that deaf audience members can fully experience the energy and emotion of the night. It’s about inclusion, everyone deserves to feel part of this fantastic event.”
As to why she’s taking part in the event, Rebecca added, “My sister spent her final 11 days in the Hospice, and the care she received was nothing short of incredible. The team looked after not just her medical needs with compassion and expertise but also made sure she was treated with dignity and warmth every single day. They even made space for me to stay with her, so I could be there for company and emotional support, something I’ll always be grateful for.”
Ness Factor, organised by Lornagh Siegel takes place on Saturday 15th November at the Drumossie Hotel with each performance live streamed to the Highland Hospice Facebook page.
